HOW A MILLION DROPS WAS BORN …
Wherever she talked to people about her charity projects, A Million Drops’ founder Maike Both was asked the same question: “What can I do to make this world a better place? Everything is just a drop in the bucket!”
Maike’s answer was always the same: “No positive action is too small! If everyone does whatever they can, a drop in the bucket will eventually become the wave of change.” And that’s how A Million Drops got its name.
But how did it get started?
After organizing a number of events in 2012 and 2013 benefitting the homeless community on Skid Row in Downtown Los Angeles, Maike realized she needed official non-profit status in order to provide more consistent assistance. By the end of 2013, she had received 501(c)3 designation for A Million Drops and started producing monthly events, such as Free Laundry Days, as well as a series of art shows titled Unsheltered – Art by Homeless Young Adults, and in 2018, she opened the A Million Drops Learning Center.
